How to search for existing patents and get assistance from an IP agency while safeguarding ur idea?

I have a great idea. I need assistance in drafting the patent application and searching for existing patents. How do I trust a patenting agency? I am afraid that I will lose my idea. I want to safeguard it and search for existing patents in the related area. How to go about it?

1. Not only that you should reveal but also you should gazette it, so, what is this fuss of safeguarding, is it a secret?
2. A patent should be drafted by a licensed patent attorney or patent agent. Most of these work for a law firm, not "patent agencys". Its not worth risking ones license to steal an invention. If you are in the US you can find a professional near you by going to www.uspto.gov and using the site index to find the Roster of Attorneys and Agents. When you find that page, search it by the first 3 digits of your zip code...
