How do I know it isn't a scam?

I was offered an employment opportunity via careerbuilder. I've been looking for work at home opportunities for a few weeks to a month now. I know the usual signs of a scam. Upfront costs, fake testimonials, little work for tons of pay, etc. I've made it a habit to check anything I'm interested in with the Better Business Bureau via online. However, this business is based in Ukraine. The job seems legit. They don't ask for any upfront costs. So should I go for it? If you know how to search this in some international business site, it's Global Financial Group 35 DANTA GLOBA ST. KIEV, 25200 UKRAINE General Tel: +(380) 44-235-9911 http://www.global-fin-group.com/ If you want to leave links to at home employment, I'm not interested in surveys or mystery shopping. I'm interested in clerical work, data entry, etc.

  1. They went through a lot of work but it is still a SCAM. The SCAM works like this: They give you some BS story about having trouble getting paid by their customers in the US (or where ever) because it takes so long for the checks to clear. They want you to act as a payment receipient. The checks will be sent to you, you deposit them and then wire 90% of it to the company (keeping 10% as your fee). Unfortunately, the checks are fake. They will look perfectly real but they will be counterfeit. They will bounce but only after you have wired the money. Banks generally "release" the funds after 3 days but these checks usually bounce after 10 days or so. This leaves you on the hook for the money because wires are not reversable. Ignore it and move on.
  2. The biggest concern I would have is in cashing and processing the payments through PayPal, are they expecting you to use your own account for the transactions and transfers? The job is labled as a "Manager" position but the description doesn't fit the title as you would not be managing any people. I would contact the company and ask for more details regarding the transfers and questions, like what are the legal implications for doing such transactions, or if you will be using their software for the processing. I would like to know exactly what I would be doing up front before agreeing to any contract, and if I had the option of quitting if the job wasn't what I expected. Good luck!
