Why is global warming such a controversy in the United States?

You search BBC UK under terms "global warming" and there really doesn't seem to be any controversy that the world is warming and us humans are speeding up the process. On the other hand you search Google News US and there's seems to be article after article stating how controversial this issue is. My question is when the scientist agree that global warming is real and we are helping push this process along, why is there so much controversy in the popular media regarding this issue? Matt Drudge of the DrugeReport.com was making fun of those that believed in global warming last night on his radio program. A caller said it was 90 in LA and some other listener called in stating it was freezing on the East Coast. Drudge made the point how can we determine that the world is warming based on individual accounts and observations. The facts state, however, that the last twelve years rank among the twelve hottest years on record. Why has this has become such a controversial political issues?

1. Exxon-Mobil has spent millions of dollars to create a "controversy" where there is none. They even pay for bloggers to BS on the internet.

3. They don't argue the fact that the earth is warming in most cases, just how its warming tends to draw the argument...
4. same reason the earth is only 4000 years old or what ever the bible says. Jesus walked on water and the Apocalypse is coming. Trickle down economics works, George Bush is good President. Facts of world can be so obvious, yet they will find the one source that says there right and quote it like the gospel. Ignorance is bliss.
5. There seems to be a large group of Americans who despise the bill of rights freedoms we have. They are they same ilk who supported Communism and Russia prior to their collapse along with the Berlin Wall. Hollywood big money and media giants have weaseled their way into hijacking the government. Both the Federal agencies such as Fish and Wildlife, Bureau of Land Mgmt, Army Corps of Engineers etc, have been granted enormous powers of control over private property and its use. The local governments have become enriched by the enviros thru land use, permit fees, and mitigation etc. by charging enormous fees to developers of buildings and houses, roads, etc. The enviros have achieved this power thru the constant use of lawsuits against the government and developers. They have become hated and despised by many people who have to pay huge amounts more money to buy their houses, and utilities, and while paying higher taxes also. Now if GW can be 'proved' the government will crush people with 'carbon credits' to collect even more taxes. The envios worship animals and hate people. I think the enviros are descendants of the Salem witch hunters of the 1600's. It is a real stew pot in the USA now. I think the Islamic terrorists love the enviros.
6. Do some research outside of your internet and start finding your own facts. Don't worry the controversy will end when the world is a steaming pot of goooo that was once humanity.
7. Because the US is the most conservative industrial nation, and conservative aren't sold on Global Warming. More precisely, we aren't sold that it's man-made. There is also a lot of people using Global Warming to push their own agenda. Liberals use it to fight capitalism. Conservatives balk at it to preserve capitalism. Few people are actually concerned with science.
