How do I stop auto-complete in search engines?

Yahoo and Google are the two big search engines, but they both have auto complete pop downs when you type in your search and I hate that. Is it possible to change settings in my browser to stop this from happening? Failing that is there a reliable third search engine I could use?

1. That is part of the autocomplete feature that can be turned off in options. In IE go to tools/ internet options/ content/ autocomplete/ settings/ forms. In Firefox go to tools/ options/ privacy/ history/ remember what I enter in forms and the search bar. You can also delete the entries by double clicking on an empty box, drop down to the first item, and then press delete for each entry. ₪ ɦəlʞɹɐq ₪
