why does my facebook group not show up in searches? i just created a facebook group - called greenfields 25 year reunion. but it does not show up in searches on the facebook website for that exact name. i have changed the privacy setting to global and it still doesnt show up - any ideas?
The consensus is wrong on global warming. Wonder when the New York Times will figure it out? Consensus can be wrong. So warned the New York Times in a science section piece on Oct. 9. “Diet and Fat: A Severe Case of Mistaken Consensus” reviewed the history of our belief that dietary fat was as big a health risk as smoking. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop declared as much in 1988. He was speaking not for himself but for the scientific community, which was nearly unanimous in fingering fat as the cause of heart disease and cancer. The trouble was, study after study failed to prove the hypothesis. It was a case, the Times explains, of “informational cascade” — a phenomenon in which groups tend to reach false conclusions because individuals often assume that the majority must be right. Thank you, New York Times. It’s a good cautionary tale about human psychology and one the Times ought to take to heart in its coverage of the global warming question. That is the issue we are currently “cascading” to conclusions about, the Times no less than anyone else. The climate of opinion on climate is dogmatic verging on hysterical. Kids are coming home from school in tears having been taught that the world they were born into will soon descend into a nightmare of massive storms, swamped cities and dying animals. The dying animals is a big favorite in the schools, particularly the stranded polar bear on an ice floe searching for land. That one even got to my worldly sons. So I was particularly happy to have Bjorn Lomborg’s new book, Cool It: A Skeptical Environmentalist’s Guide to Global Warming, on hand. Lomborg does not deny that global warming is happening, nor that it is the result of human action. But he does apply a necessary damper to the white-hot rhetoric and scare mongering of the global warming fanatics. A political scientist by training and an economist by outlook, the man the Wall Street Journal called the “golden-haired Dane” applies common sense and cost/benefit analysis to a subject brimming with emotion and unreasoning fear. Along the way, he debunks some of the myths. Pace Al Gore it seems that of the 20 subpopulations of polar bear, one or possibly two are declining in population. But more than half are stable, and two are increasing. Actually, the world population of polar bears has mushroomed over the past several decades, from some 5,000 in the 1960s to about 25,000 today, due to stricter regulation of hunting. As for those two subgroups that are declining in population, they live in regions in which the temperatures have actually been dropping over the past 50 years, whereas the subgroups that have seen an increase in population live in areas that have been getting warmer. The polar bear example is instructive because the solution being urged upon us to save the bears is a massively expensive but ultimately nearly fruitless effort to cut greenhouse-gas emissions. If we follow Kyoto or some other framework, we can at best save .06 bears per year. “But,” Lomborg writes, “49 bears from the same population are getting shot every year, and this we can easily do something about.” It’s the same with climate change writ large. Drastically reducing greenhouse-gas emissions is hardly cost free. To achieve the goals outlined in the Kyoto accords, for example, would cost the world $180 billion annually for 50 years. Examined rationally, it is clear that while global warming will do harm to some parts of the world, it will also do good to others. Might not the money be better spent mitigating the negative effects of a warming planet? Lomborg’s book focuses on trade-offs. If we’re going to spend a fixed amount of money to improve the world, what makes the most sense? Or to put it another way, which dollar spent produces the greatest benefit? According to a group of economists (including four Nobel Prize winners) who examined this question in 2004, the answer was clear. One dollar spent fighting HIV/AIDS produced $40 in social benefits. One dollar spent on fighting malnutrition yields about $30 in social benefits. Other efforts, like ending agricultural subsidies in the wealthy countries and ensuring worldwide free trade, would net a $15 benefit for a one-dollar cost. Cutting CO2 emissions, by contrast, yields between 2 and 25 cents per dollar invested. The consensus is wrong on global warming. Wonder when the New York Times will figure it out? global warming organizations? I've searched all over google, all over liveearth, and all over answers.yahoo and I can't find anything. I'm looking for an online community where you can actually have a username and password and sign up to prevent global warming. Most of the websites I have found so far are information websites with basic info. The best website that I ahve found so far is icount.org.uk but it is UK based and I am from California. All the websites I've found just keep linking back and forth to each other. I'd really love to apart of an action group to stop or at least slow down global warming.

Sunspot Activity and Global Cooling, why is the MSN ignoring this story? 1. 2008 was the least active year for sunspot activity since the beginning of the space age. 2. With approximately 273 spotless days in 2008, this was the 2nd least active year since 1913. 3. 2009 is on track to exceed the number of spotless days that 2008 had. 3. Past periods where the sun has been this inactive have resulted in dramatic global cooling. The most famous being the Maunder minimum of 1645 - 17xx. The is believed to be either the cause or at least a major contributing factor to creating the "Little Ice Age". I have been researching this subject for a few months now. Except for a number of scientific articles and publications, very little is available on this. Scientists seem to unanimously agree that this "could" cause an ice age or a "little ice age" in the very near future with several scientific groups saying it has already begun. So with this being perhaps the most important and consequential story in the modern age, why is the MSN ignoring it? Can this really be all about politics and the politics of "man made global warming"? Having successfully become our personal librarian, Google now wants to be our personal oracle. It wants to learn all about us, know us better than we know ourselves, to transform itself from a search engine into a psychoanalyst's couch or a priest's confessional. Google's search engine is the best place to learn what Google wants. Type "Eric Schmidt London May 22" into Google, and you can read about a May interview the Google chief executive gave to journalists in London. Here is how he described what he hoped the search engine would look like in five years: "The goal is to enable Google users to be able to ask the question such as 'What shall I do tomorrow?' And 'What job shall I take?' " Schmidt's goal is not inconsiderable: By 2012, he wants Google to be able to tell all of us what we want. This technology, what Google co-founder Larry Page calls the "perfect search engine," might not only replace our shrinks but also all those marketing professionals whose livelihoods are based on predicting — or guessing — consumer desires. Schmidt acknowledges that Google is still far from this goal. As he told the London journalists: "We cannot even answer the most basic questions because we don't know enough about you. That is the most important aspect of Google's expansion." So where is Google expanding? How is it planning to know more about us? Many — if not most — users don't read the user agreement and thus aren't aware that Google already stores every query we type in. The next stage is a personalized Web service called iGoogle. Schmidt, who perhaps not coincidentally sits on the board of Apple, regards its success as the key to knowing us better than we know ourselves. iGoogle is growing into a tightly-knit suite of services — personalized homepage, search engine, blog, e-mail system, mini-program gadgets, Web-browsing history, etc. — that together will create the world's most intimate information database. On iGoogle, we all get to aggregate our lives, consciously or not, so artificially intelligent software can sort out our desires. It will piece together our recent blog posts, where we've been online, our e-commerce history and cultural interests. It will amass so much information about each of us that eventually it will be able to logically determine what we want to do tomorrow and what job we want. The real question, of course, is whether what Google wants is what we want too. Do we really want Google digesting so much intimate data about us? Could iGoogle actually be a remix of "1984's" Room 101 — that Orwellian dystopia in which our most secret desires and most repressed fears are revealed? Any comparison with 20th century, top-down totalitarianism is, perhaps, a little fanciful. After all, nobody can force us to use iGoogle. And — in contrast to Yahoo and Microsoft (which have no limits on how long they hang on to our personal data) — Google has committed to retaining data for only 18 months. Still, if iGoogle turns out to be half as wise about each of us as Schmidt predicts, then this artificial intelligence will challenge traditional privacy rights as well as provide us with an excuse to deny responsibility for our own actions. What happens, for example, when the government demands access to our iGoogle records? And will we be able to sue iGoogle if it advises us to make an unwise career decision? Schmidt, I suspect, would like us to imagine Google as a public service, thereby affirming the company's "do no evil" credo. But Google is not our friend. Schmidt's iGoogle vision of the future is not altruistic, and his company is not a nonprofit group dedicated to the realization of human self-understanding. Worth more than $150 billion on the public market, Google is by far the dominant Internet advertising outlet — according to Nielsen ratings, it reaches about 70% of the global Internet audience. Just in the first quarter of 2007, Google's revenue from its online properties was up 76% from the previous year. Personal data are Google's most valuable currency, its crown jewels. The more Google knows our desires, the more targeted advertising it can serve up to us and the more revenue it can extract from these advertisers. What does Google really want? Google wants to dominate. Its proposed $3.1-billion acquisition of DoubleClick threatens to make the company utterly dominant in the online advertising business. The $1.65-billion acquisition of YouTube last year made it by far the dominant player in the online video market. And, with a personalized service like iGoogle, the company is seeking to become the algorithmic monopolist of our online behavior. So when Eric Schmidt says Google wants to know us better than we know ourselves, he is talking to his shareholders rather than us. As a Silicon Valley old-timer, trust me on this one. I know Google better than it knows itself.

I am a hard core progressive, socialist, environmentalist, pacifist... that believes in a living right. When we seek special acceptance we fractionate our collective spirit. If you took all the liberal minded, fair people in this country and gave them a single objective you would see an amazing thing. It is the ability of the Global elite to devide and conquer that keeps us from moving forward.... we all have much more in common than not. Empathy is the key to our success.... can we all just get along? we have to be honest with ourselves... I am no bigot but I'm not blind to a form of reverse discrimination.

Victims are convinced with false promises of a good job and a better way of living, and then forced to work under abusive and inhuman conditions. Victims of trafficking are brought into the system through several means. Most victims of trafficking today come from three populations. First, parents may sell children to traffickers in order to pay off debts or gain income. Second, runaways or other displaced persons may be picked up by traffickers. Third, people who are seeking entry to other countries may be picked up by traffickers, and typically are misled into thinking that they will be free after being smuggled across the border. Definitions may very base upon that cultural variation of the crime. In the United States, when people think of human trafficking, they often refer to the illegal practice of migrant smuggling. They picture illegal immigrants from countries like Mexico or China arriving into the United States by way of freight trailer or cargo boat in search for job opportunities and freedom. Human trafficking is defined as sex trafficking in which commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or in which the person forced to perform such an act is under 18. The recruitment, transportation, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force or fraud, for the purpose of subjecting that person to involuntary hard labor, high debts owed, or slavery. Men, women, and children worldwide were bought, sold, transported, and held against their will in unsafe and abusive conditions. Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing forms of commerce and crime throughout the world. While men, women, and children are trafficked throughout many countries into forced labor situations in sweatshops and agricultural sites, the majority of victims are women and children trafficking into the sex trade for the purpose of prostitution, sex tourism, pornography and other sexual services. Most recent Department of States estimates indicate that 700,000 to million women and children are trafficked each year across the world, 50,000 of them into and within the United States (Chauang, J., 2006). The International Organization for Migrations (IOM) estimate the rate could be much higher, stating that as many as two million men, women and children were trafficking across borders in 2001 (IOM website, 2003). Illegal aliens look for the help of “traffickers” to be transporter into another country, mainly the United States. Traffickers, work in small, large, or highly organized groups, arranging for everything from transportation to fake identification, visas, passports and work documents for the aliens. While the conditions of transportation may be unknown, “smuggled” aliens knowingly and willingly enter the destination country to work or find work, they agree to being smuggled. However, a smuggling relationship may allow the opportunity for the smuggler to alter the relationship to trafficking. Persons who seek the help of smugglers often become victims of trafficking, in the destination country or en route. When victims have never consented to being smuggled are either kidnapped or deceived with false employment offers. Traffickers make a profit between seven billion and ten billion dollars a year globally, and it is know as the third largest source of illicit trade, behind guns and narcotics. According to U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, the intelligence community predicts that revenue from trafficking “will outstrip the illicit trade in guns and narcotics within a decade.” (Chauang, J., 2006). History Early trafficking efforts focused on white slavery. In 1904, the International Agreement for the Suppression of the White Slave Traffic was created, although very few countries signed it. In the following decades, the focus on trafficking continued to be on women and children who were sold into prostitution. The first concerted international effort to combat trafficking came in 1949, with the U.N. Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others. Like other such conventions before it, the document focused on the trafficking of women and children for prostitution. The U.S. at the same time was undertaking its own efforts to combat global human trafficking. In 2000, Congress passed the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (also referred to as the Trafficking Victims Protection Act), the first U.S. law to comprehensively address the various aspects of human trafficking. The act included measures to help those who were trafficked and to increase punishment for traffickers, as well as to bolster other countries' efforts against trafficking. President Bill Clinton (D, 1993-2000) signed the act in October 2000, hailing it as "the most significant step we've ever taken to secure the health and safety of women at home and around the world." With regard to dealing with those who have been trafficked, the law represented a turnaround in policy. Previously, those found working illicitly were treated as criminals. The 2000 act changed that, treating those people as victims of a crime and seeking to help rather than punish them. Under the act, victims can be given a special visa, called a T-visa, allowing them to stay in the U.S. for up to three years if they would face hardship upon deportation. In return, the victims agree to assist in the investigation and prosecution of the traffickers. (As of March 2004, 448 victims of trafficking had been granted a T-visa.) The U.S. has also cracked down on Americans who may contribute to trafficking abroad. For example, Congress has passed legislation under which Americans who travel overseas to frequent child prostitutes, known as "sex tourism," can be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison. And the Defense Department has also established a "zero tolerance" policy toward U.S. servicemen who may contribute to human trafficking overseas. In addition, individual states have also begun to pass human trafficking legislation. How do I know it isn't a scam? I was offered an employment opportunity via careerbuilder. I've been looking for work at home opportunities for a few weeks to a month now. I know the usual signs of a scam. Upfront costs, fake testimonials, little work for tons of pay, etc. I've made it a habit to check anything I'm interested in with the Better Business Bureau via online. However, this business is based in Ukraine. The job seems legit. They don't ask for any upfront costs. So should I go for it? Some 200 graves of humans were found during fieldwork at the site in 2005 and 2006, as well as remains of animals, large fish and crocodiles. "Everywhere you turned, there were bones belonging to animals that don't live in the desert," said Sereno. "I realized we were in the green Sahara." The graveyard, uncovered by hot desert winds, is near what would have been a lake at the time people lived there. It's in a region called Gobero, hidden away in Niger's forbidding Tenere Desert, known to Tuareg nomads as a "desert within a desert." The human remains dated from two distinct populations that lived there during wet times, with a dry period in between. The first group, known as the Kiffian, hunted wild animals and speared huge perch with harpoons. They colonized the region when the Sahara was at its wettest, between 10,000 and 8,000 years ago. The researchers said the Kiffians were tall, sometimes reaching well over 6 feet (1.83 meters). The second group lived in the region between 7,000 and 4,500 years ago. The Tenerians were smaller and had a mixed economy of hunting, fishing and cattle herding. Their burials often included jewelry or ritual poses. For example, one girl had an upper-arm bracelet carved from a hippo tusk. An adult Tenerian male was buried with his skull resting on part of a clay vessel; another adult male was interred seated on the shell of a mud turtle. And pollen remains show the woman and two children were buried on a bed of flowers. The researchers preserved the group just as they had been for thousands of years. "At first glance, it's hard to imagine two more biologically distinct groups of people burying their dead in the same place," said team member Chris Stojanowski, a bioarchaeologist from Arizona State University. Stojanowski said ridges on the thigh bone of one Kiffian man show he had huge leg muscles, "which suggests he was eating a lot of protein and had an active, strenuous lifestyle. The Kiffian appear to have been fairly healthy — it would be difficult to grow a body that tall and muscular without sufficient nutrition." On the other hand, ridges on a Tenerian male were barely visible. "This man's life was less rigorous, perhaps taking smaller fish and game with more advanced hunting technologies," Stojanowski said. Helene Jousse, a zooarchaeologist from the Museum of Natural History in Vienna, reported that animal bones found in the area were from types common today in the Serengeti in Kenya, such as elephants, giraffes, hartebeests and warthogs. The finds are detailed in reports in Thursday's edition of the journal PLoS One and in the September issue of National Geographic Magazine. While the Sahara is desert today, a small difference in Earth's orbit once brought seasonal monsoons farther north, wetting the landscape with lakes with lush margins and drawing animals and people. K. Roy Kamal Karna Roy (also known as Kamal K.K. Roy and Rev. Dr. Joseph Geronimo, Jr.) is a prolific pro se litigant who, since at least the early 1990s, has filed numerous lawsuits throughout the United States and its territories under the names Roy and Joseph Geronimo, Jr., as well as under the names of entities that he is affiliated with, including International Siva Consciousness & World Religions, Reforms International, Handicap Interests International, and Jungle Democracy.[1] Roy's lawsuits are often brought against multiple defendants, and feature long, unconventional complaints. Roy has filed lawsuits against God, U.S. Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, fast food restaurants, foreign leaders.[2], and Wikipedia [3] [4]. Roy's lawsuits have addressed, among many other things, actions taken by President George W. Bush, overcharging by telecommunication companies, the appointment of Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court, and "failure of democratic societies and God's role therein."[5] In 2006 Judge Michael W. McConnell of The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit described a typical Roy complaint: Roy, a/k/a Joseph Geronimo, Jr. filed a 115-page complaint, a 144-page amended complaint, and a 40-page second amended complaint against over sixty defendants, including among many others President Bush, God as U.S.-based divine benefactor, several government agencies, The New York Times, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. In addition to pages of rambling discourse, the complaint contains numerous illegible handwritten remarks.[6] The Tenth Circuit went on to affirm the district court's dismissal of the complaint holding that no discernible claim was apparent from the complaint. Judge McConnell also humorously noted that the court "strongly suspect[ed] at least one defendant was not properly served."[7] Most, if not all, of Roy's complaints have been dismissed. A 2006 United States District Court for the District of Delaware opinion, Jungle Democracy v.
